Dismissal of money laundering claims
Our firm was the legal representative of a commercial bank in a mammoth claim for money laundering ($26m), with the claims being dismissed.
Dismissal of professional negligence claims
We also represented a commercial bank accused of professional negligence (€23m), again with the claims being dismissed.
Landmark insurance law case
In an insurance law case, where a paraplegic was awarded the sum of €2.2m (the largest sum ever awarded as compensation in an accident), action against our client was dismissed.
Sole arbitration between a major bank and trade unions
Mr P G Polyviou was appointed by the Republic of Cyprus as the sole arbitrator in a dispute between a major Greek bank, which has a presence in Cyprus, and the trade union of its employees.
Legal advisor following unprecedented banking crisis
Following the events of March 2013 and the Eurogroup’s decision regarding the country’s banking sector, our firm has been advising the Bank of Cyprus as well as the ex-Laiki Bank on all cases filed against them. It has also been defending these banks before the Cypriot courts against claims related to the bailout agreement of March 25th, 2013.
